Finally got my website up and going and what have I been doing all of this time?
Seriously.
WHAT HAVE I BEEN DOING??
Seriously.
WHAT HAVE I BEEN DOING??
Well...perhaps a bit more YouTube than would be considered "inspirational" or "a break". It's not really much of a break if your breaks are really breaks from...taking...a break? Gosh, I take a lot of breaks. I've also been thinking. Doing inordinate amounts of thinking. And not about things that would make me "happy", per say, or increase my knowledge, but about heavy stuff. I've been thinking about the future and it freaks. Me. Out. Maybe that's why I haven't been sleeping as much (that or a lingering bad habit from Finals Week). |
See, here's how I view the prospect of being an animator. It's exciting. The possibilities? They can go as far as you imagine them to go. You meet cool people with cool minds, you make a product that makes people smile, you're passed down from generation to generation, copied if your style is really good, sent down the viral path of liking and sharing...And then, of course, there is the road to get there. Paved with good intentions and long hours. Lined with practice, practice, practice, and goshdarnit, it's a hard road to travel on.
And what allows an animator to really "make it" in this day and age, I think, is a sense of personal style that sets you apart from the mainstream, and yet also the ability to go with the flow and animate "commercially". That way, you can be animating what you love on one side, becoming a YouTube sensation, and also making money on the other side, networking through business and being "forced" to learn new styles and techniques and how to work with others.
All in all, there's a lot left to accomplish, both with my education and with myself as an animator and person.
You'd think I would lay off thinking about that over break.
HA. HA HA. Oh silly, you should know me by now; do you really think I could spend my break not worrying?
On another note, I haven't really properly introduced myself!
My name is EAT (Emily), and I am the head/president/overall manager of EAT Incorporated and its affiliates.
I am also a college student, a birthday card maker, a doodler, an animator, a baker, a viewer, a chocoholic, a cat enthusiast, and consistent crafter.
When I haven't been stressing about life over break, I've been scouring everywhere and anywhere (but mostly Pinterest) for ideas for general projects and Christmas gifts and cards and basically ANYTHING that seems unique and fun and inspiring. Most of my break has been spent brainstorming, which doesn't sound very interesting on the surface but it is certainly a big undertaking to sort through hundreds of people's ideas of what is "unique" and "creative" and "diy". And "cool". And "cute".
But seriously, I could talk FOREVER about how I've mulled over life in my head over break, or how I've doubted myself, or how I've set about trying to be a better me, etc., etc., angst, productivity, blah.
But the only person who'd probably want to hear that is me.
So, I will instead leave you with a proposition and be done with it.
The "Week of Whats". Well, I mean it won't be seven straight days of posts, but rather four posts (including this one), delivered between now and next Sunday.
The first "what" was "What have I been doing?", and we've certainly beaten THAT dead horse! Each "what" will address what I've been up do and ultimately where I'm hoping to go, so stay tuned for developments on that point!
A little bit about the site itself: most of it is pretty much "done", but I'll probably always be going back to polish it, and I'll definitely continue to add art and writing (and perhaps improve the organization as well, by adding subsections within the art categories, etc.) I'm open to suggestions, which you can send to me through the contact page, and overall I just wanted a better, more formal way to bring together all of my art and creative endeavors and share it all with other people!
And hopefully, I can get all of my posts a smidge shorter than this. Hopefully.
For now, happy holidays! Wherever you may be, may the holiday season be treating you well.
And here is our dog. :)
